Probe shows price correction in construction materials

A probe of the construction materials market launched by the government three months ago shows a correction in prices, state secretary for consumer protection Peter Cseresnyes said on Thursday.

“An analysis of price developments shows that the marked rise in prices in the first half clearly stopped in July. In some instances, prices were successfully rolled back to levels at the beginning of the year, and prices for an even broader range of products returned to levels in April,” Cseresnyes said in a statement.

The government obligated building materials sellers to declare exports in the summer amid concerns runaway prices could counter the benefits of a home renovation subsidy scheme. The reporting requirement is in force until January 2022.

The building materials market probe is continuing.
