Parliament dedicates 2025 as Memorial Year of Jokai, Klebelsberg

Hungary's parliament has approved the culture and innovation ministry's (KIM) initiative dedicating 2025 as a memorial year of 19th century writer and MP Mor Jokai and 20th century lawyer, MP and public education minister, Kuno Klebelsberg, KIM said on Wednesday.

Born 200 years ago, Jokai is one of the most versatile writers in Hungarian literature, “duly regarded as one of the greatest story-telling artists in universal literature,” the ministry said in a statement.

Klebelsberg, who was born 150 years ago, has left behind an oeuvre of “epochal significance”, his legacy as a statesman has had an immeasurable impact on Hungarian public education, science policy and culture, it said.

“Hungary is proud of all those who have Hungary as their homeland, of those who have made an enormous contribution to the thriving of our country and nation through their performance and achievements,” the ministry said.
