Andre Kertesz exhibition to open in Charleroi
An exhibition of photos by renowned Hungarian-born photographer Andre Kertesz will open in the Charleroi Museum of Photography in Belgium on Saturday.
The exhibition will show a collection of images Kertesz took between 1929 and 1936 during his stay in Paris before moving to New York. Pictures taken in other French cities with his hand-held Leica camera and a series of photos taken in Budapest will also be shown.
Cedric de Veigy, the curator, said on the occasion of the opening that several generations of his colleagues used Kertesz’s photos as a point of reference and since then many historians have regarded him “as the father of 24x36mm photography”.
Organised in partnership with the Liszt Institute and the Hungarian Cultural Centre in Brussels, the exhibition will run until January 16, 2022.
