In Budapest it’s not too hard to find a good restaurant. There are new, modern eateries popping up on almost every corner. Many offer traditional Hungarian dishes, which makes them especially popular among tourists. For those people who would like to develop their tastebuds, however, and get to know the traditional cuisine of exotic countries, we have made this selection of international restaurants in Budapest, which we are presenting over the course of two articles.

Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal describes itself as offering the “real Indian taste”, although Indian cuisine, due to the vast size of the country, is very versatile and variable. Only one thing is constant: since many, partly very hot spices are used, such as curry and chili, the Indian food is not for those with a weak stomach.

Taj Mahal combines fresh ingredients with traditional recipes to provide you with a special taste experience. Chicken, fish and vegetarian dishes constitute the spine of the menu card. The famous Tandoori dishes, marinated in a special spicy yoghurt sauce, are also offered. All the dishes can be ordered online and delivered to your door.

Mongolian Barbecue

Since winter is especially cold on the Mongolian steppe, with temperatures reaching even -40 degrees Celsius, the diet is based on animal fat. Thus meat dishes are most characteristic of this restaurant. However, these dishes are not prepared cooked or dried in a traditional Mongolian way, but in order to better fit the European taste they are grilled or fried. If you are daring, try one of the meat specialities of the house, for example the shark, horse or goat steaks. For the less adventurous there are simple chicken, fish and beef dishes in this all-you-can-eat restaurant. The dark, rustic interior has a one-of-a-kind ambience.

La Bodeguita del Medio

La Bodeguita
La Bodeguita

When you think about Cuba, you can already smell the smoke of an authentic cigar and feel the taste of a rum with lime drink. However, both light exotic and substantial dishes are part of the Caribbean lifestyle. In La Bodeguita del Medio you can enjoy this feeling all year round. With the Cuban live music that is played every evening and a glass of Havana Club or Mojito in your hand, they turn the night into day here.

Fajitas, guacamole, ceviche, beans and avocados: everything is here that South Americans like. The salsa sauce, jalapeños and chilli peppers give La Bodeguita del Medio’s dishes a fiery kick. The concept is rounded off with an open-air terrace and Cuban dance nights.
