Pecs to join Earth Hour on March 29
Friday, 21 March 2008
ImageThe southern Hungarian city of Pecs will join cities around the world in turning off all lights for Earth Hour on March 29, the Pecs 2010 management centre said on Friday.

A total of 30 million people around the world are expected to turn off all electricity for an hour starting at 2000 in the course of the action initiated by the World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF).

Pecs has decided to join the 300 cities participating in the scheme because it well fits the programme to promote health and environmental protection, part of the preparations to Pecs becoming European Capital of Culture in 2010, said the organisers.

Further details about Earth Hour in Pecs will be announced at a candle-lit press conference on March 25, the organisers said.

The first Earth Hour was held in Sydney in 2007, when an estimated 2 million people stopped using electricity for one hour.
