Since the beginning of February LeasePlan Hungária Kft has been led by the Dutchman Roelof Hansman. His predecessor Nigel Storny is now in charge of the Austrian LeasePlan subsidiary. Hansman, 40, began his career at the start of the ‘90s in Sweden at Kraft Foods. In 1999 he joined LeasePlan, where he started out working in the head office in Amsterdam, taking care of the strategy and development of seven local subsidiaries.
His work there included leading the establishment of LeasePlan's Greek unit. In June 2006 he moved to Düsseldorf for the company. Although his contract there was due to expire in summer 2011, the company unexpectedly sent him to Hungary, where he is scheduled to lead LeasePlan Hungária Kft until summer 2013.
In Budapest Hansmann has taken over a well-functioning company. “We closed last year above target,” his predecessor Storny said. Although there were no spectacular new contracts, the company succeeded in further expanding the existing LeasePlan fleets of many clients. That was possible due to close communication with clients, for example by proactively making them aware of various cost-cutting possibilities in fleet management. Recognising client needs promptly and reacting appropriately also played an important role, Storny said.
The success was also possible thanks to the company's highly-motivated staff. Since entering the company in 2007 Storny has paid great attention not only to improving the efficiency of work processes, but also to developing a performance-enhancing working environment with a strong team spirit. During restructuring he placed emphasis on communicating openly and acting transparently. “It is essential for the success of such restructuring measures that colleagues always know what is happening and why,” Storny explained. The results of Storny's efforts immediately struck Hansman. “I have found a very good, competent and really professional team,” Hansmann said of his first impressions.
LeasePlan has been present in Hungary since 1994. Currently the company's fleet consists of some 9,000 vehicles, divided among 380 clients. LeasePlan's clients include MOL and IBM. LeasePlan has been the Hungarian market leader for ten years with a market share of roughly one-third.
