Budapest, November 26 (MTI) - The government will have
to return to its reform policy in 2009, the prime minister said on
television on Wednesday, adding that it must not be allowed to make the
same mistakes it has made in the past.
Speaking on public television's Nap-kelte (Sunrise) morning magazine, Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany said he would be concentrating on next year's budget bill until its adoption on December 15, but afterwards he planned to drum up public support for a second round of reforms because the only way reforms can succeed is if the country understands and supports them.
Asked about the Council of Elders established by President Laszlo Solyom, the PM said it was a good idea for the president to seek counsel from leading professionals. However, he voiced the view that Hungary did not have six months in which to prepare studies since the world was moving far too fast for that.
