The Legends Sports Bar in District V is so new that it has not yet officially celebrated its opening, but is already gaining interest among sport-loving tourists and Budapest residents.
The bar, which opened on 21 October near the Danube promenade on the site of the now closed Ocean Bar and Grill, has a welcoming and stylish ambience, with 30 all-HD television screens of different sizes on which guests can watch a wide variety of sports. The selection of drinks is extensive and guests can choose from many international beers. Each of the booths has its own television screen so that diners won’t miss a single goal or touchdown.
In addition to the atmosphere and the screens, the service and quality of the food are extremely important, explains Robert Longworth, a partner in Legends. As well as the typical dishes you expect in a sports bar, there is also an emphasis on Mexican and Hungarian food, for example jalapeno peppers in a thousand island dressing (HUF 1,590), and grandmother’s goulash soup (HUF 750).
Guests who don’t want to eat a full meal can order “combos” such as the Mexican-inspired platter (HUF 2,190) or the Legends platter (HUF 1,950) which come with a range of finger foods. The chicken wings in different portion sizes (HUF 1,290-4,950) also work well as a snack.
Guests not visiting primarily for the sport will not be disappointed. The menu includes British fish and chips, providing diners the night before have not eaten up all the supplies. There are, however, other types of fish on the menu such as tuna steak (HUF 3,850) and salmon steak (HUF 2,850) with a choice of chips, onion rings or salad. Alternatively guests can order the beef steak (HUF 3,590). The usual suspects like spaghetti carbonara and penne arrabbiata (each HUF 1,190) are also featured. The Legends burger (HUF 2,250) is 180g of well-salted meat in a delicious, crispy roll, and guests can choose between medium and well-done, and once again chips, onion rings or salad. Ketchup and mustard can be requested, but less is sometimes more: if you go without the condiments you can really taste the excellent quality of the meat.
For a light option guests can choose one of the salads such as the Caesar salad which can be ordered vegetarian (HUF 890), with chicken (HUF 1,090) or with prawns (HUF 1,390). For dessert, guests should not pass up the decadent chocolate cake and the key lime pie, leaving it to the sportspeople on the screens to work off the calories.
