Police have unarmed and arrested a bank robber in an OTP branch in eastern Budapest, after he had taken hostages inside on Thursday afternoon, MTI's correspondent reported from the site.
The police were in full control of the situation by about 1900 hours local time, when all hostages were released and the robber was led off handcuffed and with a hood over his head.
The man entered the bank at around 1700 hours, and demanded money. He also injured one of the security guards, then he shut himself up in a room, the spokesperson of Budapest Police told MTI.
The police closed down Nagy Lajos kiraly Rd. and neighbouring streets. The police anti-terrorist squad, a hostage negotiator and several ambulance cars soon arrived at the site.
