The ice oval is ready and competitors in the World Short Track Speed Skating Championship are training for this weekend’s races in Debrecen’s Fõnix Hall.
During the three-day event the capital of Hajdú-Bihar County will host 300 athletes from 35 countries with major entrants including American world record holder (500m), Olympic bronze medallist and world champion J.R. Celski; world record holder (1,000m), two-time Olympic and two-time world champion Charles Hamelin from Canada; plus European Champion Bernadett Heidum of Hungary and nine other of the nation’s speed skaters.
Venue: Fõnix Hall, Debrecen, Kassai út 28.
Directions: Debrecen is a two-hour drive from Budapest on M3 and M35 highways or a three-hour train ride with frequent departures from Western Railway Station (Metro 2, Déli station).
Daily tickets: are HUF 500-2,800 (EUR 1.70-9.40), with three-day passes HUF 1,300-7,000 (EUR 4.40-23.50). Entry is free for seniors and children under six years.
