The National Dance Theatre holds its annual Budapest Dance Festival from Tuesday 24 April until International Dance Day on Sunday 29 April. Ballet, contemporary and folk styles will be performed by dance companies from Hungary and abroad.
Italian Tuesday
The Italian-based EgriBiancoDanza Company, directed by Italian choreographer Susanna Egri, opens the ball at the dance theatre next Tuesday with a three-part programme of works by Raphael Bianco including Da Nobis Pacem to music by contemporary Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, Les Noces (The Wedding) set to a score by Stravinsky and Amor di Mundo, created using some songs from Cesaria Evora.
The festival closes next Sunday with a gala evening at the Palace of Arts featuring Association of Hungarian Dancers awardees Ballet Company of Gyõr, Central Europe Dance Theatre, Ballet Pécs, Szeged Contemporary Dance Company, Compagnie Pál Frenák, Hungarian Dance Academy and “Young Hearts” Hungarian Dance Ensemble.
Programmes in between include the premiere of Mein Kleiner Blumengarten (My Little Flower Garden) by Gangaray Dance Company and further performances at the National Dance Theatre and the Palace of Arts by Compagnie Yvette Bozsik, Badora Dance Company, Budapest Dance Theatre, Szeged Contemporary Dance Company and Compagnie Pál Frenák.
