Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker ballet will once more be performed at the State Opera House this year. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 2 November (and always sell out early.)
Set in a fantasy dream world on Christmas Eve, the ballet tells the story of Clara, whose wooden nutcracker turns into a handsome Prince in her sleep. She finds herself in a battle between gingerbread men and the Mouse King’s soldiers, and visits the beautiful Land of Sweets ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Colourful costumes and dashing characters ensure the success of the fairytale ballet but it is above all the music that sweeps up audiences into the festive spirit, with well-known airs such as the “Nutcracker Suite”, the “Pas de Trois” and the “Waltz of the Snowflakes”.
