The ladies of the International Women´s Club (IWC) and Norbert Jécsy, CEO of Miele Hungary, handed over almost eight cubic metres of donated clothes and household goods (pictured above) to the Békési Kollégium és Esélyház (Békés student home and house of opportunities) on Thursday. A similar donation had been given to the Hungarian Hospice Foundation the previous week. The Hungarian arm of Austria’s Volksbank has been fined HUF 50 million (EUR 171,340) over a clause in the form it gave to clients who wish to avail themselves of an early repayment scheme that obliges banks to let them clear foreign-currency mortgages at a discounted exchange rate. Continue »

Troublesome purchase subsidies reborn

A “light version” of the previously existing state-subsidised, forint-loan and home grant programme will be introduced next year, Economy Minister György Matolcsy and PM Viktor Orbán announced on Wednesday. In its first year the two support systems will be available for 7-9,000 families and will cost the state HUF 6.5 billion (EUR 22.33 million), they said. Continue »
