Consul visits Hungarian imprisoned after Santa Cruz shootings

Hungary’s honorary consul in La Paz, Bolivia, told MTI
early on Tuesday he had visited Elod Toaso, a Hungarian man imprisoned
on suspicion of conspiring with terrorists. Toaso was arrested in the
midst of a police operation to disrupt an alleged plot to assassinate
President Evo Morales, in which Hungarians were shot last week. Continue »

Government outlines detailed budget assumptions

Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai’s government on Tuesday
unveiled detailed data assumptions for the budget this year, projecting
a big contraction in real wages with consumers spending 7-8 percent
less year on year, investments declining by 10 percent and exports

Fewer deals done

A recently released study by global real estate advisor
DTZ revealed that direct investment in commercial property in Central
and Eastern Europe has been gradually falling since early 2007. The
company estimated that some 160 properties were traded in the region’s
six main markets of Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania,
Russia and Ukraine, representing a 43% fall in transaction volume

Goose cooked, but property has lots of potential

While the opposition has focused its criticism on the
candidacy of Gordon Bajnai for prime minister on his moral and possibly
also legal responsibility for the bankruptcy of poultry firm Hajdú-Bét
Zrt, less attention has been paid to the fact that the supposedly
independent manager Bajnai could be just as caught up in dubious deals
