Austrian police arrested two of the three suspects in connection with the stabbing of Romanian handball player Marian Cozma, who died overthe weekend, a local police spokeswoman told MTI on Monday.
The two Hungarian men, one known as Sandor Raffael and the other identified only as Gyozo N, were caught near the Hungarian border in Austria overnight, said Piroska Varadi. Police has issued an international warrant for Gyozo N as he emerged as the third suspect, she added.
Police are still searching for the suspected third Hungarian man, known as Ivan Sztojka, Varadi said.
Cozma, 26, who joined Hungary’s top-ranking club MKB Veszprem in 2006, was celebrating the birth of a teammate’s child with other members in a night club in western Hungary when another group got into an altercation with them on Saturday night. Cozma was stabbed outside the club and died early on Sunday. Two of his teammates, Croatian Ivan Pesic, 19, and Serbian Zarko Sesum, 22, were seriously hurt when trying to defend Cozma. Pesic’s kidney had to be removed, and Sesum suffered head injuries. Both are in a stable condition, the hospital in Veszprem said on Monday.
