The mayor
of Monok, a village in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County in eastern Hungary, is
withholding social security benefits from families that do not regularly send
their children to kindergarten or school. In addition, people on social

Budapest, May 26 (MTI) – Hungary’s freight forwarders carried
70.10 million tonnes of goods in the first quarter of this year, 2.2
percent less than in 2007, but their output in terms of
freight-tonnes-kilometres rose by 1.9 percent to 12.83 billion last

Budapest, May 26 (MTI) – Social and welfare expenditure seem to
be using up the money needed for economic growth, wrote Monday’s
business daily Vilaggazdasag, quoting central bank president Andras
Simor, who called for an 8-10 billion euro cut in welfare
expenditure just to put Hungary on par with other countries with
