The
jockeying for position among Serbia’s political parties began last week after
elections on 11 May produced a parliament delicately balanced between pro-EU
and pro-Russia parties. Many saw
the election as little more than a referendum on the future international
orientation of a nation torn between the promise of future prosperity in the EU

Budapest, May 20 (MTI) – PADOSZ, a union representing about half
of the 200 people working for Dekoten, a company responsible for
cleaning works at Hungary’s sole nuclear power plant at Paks (C
Hungary), staged a two-hour warning strike on Tuesday after failing
to reach an agreement with the management on a new collective

Budapest, May 20 (MTI) – The Ministry of Finance forecasts a
cash-flow public finance surplus of 88.6 billion forints for May
and cuts the H1 fiscal deficit by 71 billion to HUF 732.2 billion
forints from HUF 803.2 billion forints expected last month. Four-month public finance deficit was 522.4 billion forints. Continue »

The
Ukrainian-owned energy company Emfesz announced last week that it intends to
build one of Hungary’s
largest gas-fired power stations in Nyirtass, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County
on the Ukrainian border. The project represents an investment of some EUR 1.5
billion and completion is scheduled for 2015. The first block, with a
generation capacity of 800MW should be ready by 2011. Continue »
