Men’s handball ECh – Win against Belarus allows Hungary to win group

Bergen,
Norway – After Spain beat Germany 30-22 in the other meeting of Group C, the game
against Belarus became a must-win for Hungary, if they were to continue their
quest for gold. And the national team didn’t disappoint its devoted fans, as
they cruised to a 31-26 (18-16) victory. Hungary
won the group and will meet Sweden,
Iceland and France in the

BUX down 3.3pc in bearish trading all week – stocks report

Budapest, January 20 (MTI) – The Budapest Stock Exchange’s
headline BUX index fell 824 points or 3.3 percent to 24,109 over the
past week. All blue chips fell in bearish trading this week on the back of
bad international sentiment and poor US company reports. Friday saw some upward correction with a 3.7 percent rise in the
BUX, but not enough to offset falls on all previous days of the week. Continue »

Gov’t spends 92m forints on children and youth insurance in 2007

Budapest, January 20 (MTI) – Hungary’s government spent 92
million forints (363,600 euros) last year on personal injuries
insurance for children and youth, government spokesman David Daroczi
said on Sunday. The insurer paid out 81 million forints for over 18,000 claims
filed for children aged 3 to 18 in 2007, Daroczi said. The government had decided in 2003 to offer all children under
the age of 18 insurance coverage for injuries, disability and death. Continue »

Analysts expect no cbank rate change on Monday

Budapest, January 20 (MTI) – Analysts polled by MTI on Sunday
expected that the Monetary Council will leave the base rate
unchanged at 7.5 percent at its rate-setting meeting on Monday. At its last rate-setting meeting in December, the council did
not approve a rate-cut with only one person voting for a

Budapest, January 20 (MTI) – On Monday the sun will sporadically
break through the cloud cover and light rain or showers are
possible. Foggy patches expected overnight and up until noon,
especially in the southwest. Breezes will be from the west,
southwest and may gust to high or even gale force in the northern
part of the country. Nighttime lows should range from 2 to 7 degrees Celsius, and
daytime highs will be between 9 and 14 degrees Celsius, with
slightly lower temperatures in the southwest, the National Weather
