BUX closes at 25,943 points, up by 2.14 percent

Budapest, December 5 (MTI) – The Budapest Stock Exchange’s BUX
index closed trading at 25,943.45 points on Wednesday, up by 544.51
points or 2.14 percent compared to Tuesday’s close. Overall trading amounted to 23.9 billion forints (about 94.8

Belgrade-Budapest motorway closed after pile-up

Budapest, December 5 (MTI) – A multi-car pile-up near Budapest
on Motorway M5, connecting the Hungarian capital with the Serbian
border, closed the northbound lanes on Wednesday afternoon, police
told MTI. The accident occurred 22 kilometres southeast of Budapest, near
the site of another accident, this one a car-truck crash which had
left only one lane open. Traffic heading for Budapest is being diverted to a parallel

W Hungary towns get HUF 4bn EU funding for development

President receives new ambassadors

Budapest, (MTI) – President Laszlo Solyom on
Wednesday received newly appointed ambassadors of the UK, Mexico and
Rwanda. Gregory John Dorey, Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Pedro
Gonzalez Rubio Sanchez, Ambassador of the United Mexican States and
Eugene-Richard Gasana, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda

FM to attend NATO meeting in Brussels

Budapest, December 5 (MTI) – Foreign Minister Kinga Goncz is
scheduled to attend a two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers
starting in Brussels on Thursday. In a statement sent to MTI, the Foreign Ministry said that the
meeting’s agenda would focus on issues in connection with the West
Balkans, Kosovo, Afghanistan, as well as NATO’s enlargement, missile
defence and the agreement on restricting traditional arms. Participants will also discuss NATO’s relationship with Russia,

Ten injured in van-car crash in S Hungary

Budapest, December 5 (MTI) – Ten people were injured, two
seriously, when a minibus and car collided between Opusztaszer and
Baks (S Hungary) on Wednesday morning, police reported. Five out of six commuters travelling in the minibus were

Hotel, catering income up 4 percent in Jan-Oct

Budapest, (MTI) – The gross income of commercial
accommodation, including catering, rose 4 percent to 209 billion in
the first ten months of 2007 compared to the same period of 2006,
the Central Statistical Office reported on Wednesday. Income from accommodation amounted to 120 billion during the
period, a 4 percent increase compared to Jan-Oct 2006. Average occupancy rate at hotels was 51 percent, 1.4 percentage
