Gyurcsany announced a set of seven proposals last week aimed at
restoring transparency in Hungary’s scandal-ridden public and
political life.
Several politicians of Gyurcsany’s senior governing Socialist
party (MSZP) are suspected of mismanagement of European Union and
public funding in scandals revealed over the past month.
Gyurcsany has proposed to expect members of parliament not to
hold other jobs outside of Parliament and to streamline a cobwebby
structure of bonuses and freebies for MPs into one lump salary. He
put forward measures to make party and campaign financing more
transparent as well as stricter rules on allocating public funds.
